Coaching for entrepreneurs questioning their course
– Door Steven Stephania · integratief coach in Utrecht · NOBCO #90230
Doubt is not a sign of indecisiveness, but an essential instrument indicating that the current course is no longer in line with inner conviction. A situation arises where hard work no longer results in the desired movement, while physical signals of tension are systematically pushed to the background. In this phase of stagnation, individual coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt offers a foundation to investigate the underlying dynamics. It is a signal.
A decision that truly holds firm arises when the rational mind and the physical experience enter into a dialogue with each other. You discover how slowing down clears the way for clarity regarding the true cause of uncertainty and the loss of direction. Through an integrative approach, the core of the stagnation becomes visible, leading to peace in the role as leader. This form of individual coaching is aimed at essential growth and does not replace medical care in case of illness or depression.
Why doubt occurs more often among experienced entrepreneurs
A situation in which the pressure of leadership increases often leads to an overload of rational faculties. Experienced entrepreneurs have relied on their analytical power for years to solve complex issues in their business. However, when the familiar way of working no longer yields the desired results in the outside world, a fundamental break in this self-confidence occurs. In such moments, coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt can help shift the focus from the head to the entire system. Analytical thinking simply falls short at that point.
In my practice, I regularly see entrepreneurs trying to remove this uncertainty by thinking even harder, collecting even more data, or working longer. This mechanism often results in a state of analysis paralysis, where over-analyzing all possible options completely blocks decisiveness and feeds indecision. Instead of finding the desired calm, this cognitive effort reinforces inner unrest and the distance from one’s own intuition. It is a dead end that slowly drains the soul from entrepreneurship. These patterns often become clear during a process of entrepreneurial coaching. That offers a new perspective.
The physiology of uncertainty in leadership
Polyvagal theory describes how our nervous system responds to lack of safety or uncertainty by shifting into a survival mode, a process in which the body prioritizes protection over creativity or connection. When an entrepreneur gets stuck, there is often a lack of co-regulation, where their own nervous system no longer finds rest or safety in interaction with the environment or the team. Doubt acts here as a physiological signal that the body no longer experiences the current course as safe or appropriate for well-being. Coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt focuses on restoring this inner balance. The system asks for a conscious slowing down.
How slowing down helps break patterns
Slowing down is an instrument that creates space for observing what is truly happening beneath the surface of daily operations, where the speed of decisions often prevails. In the dynamics of a growing company, the temptation is great to immediately fill every void with new action or plans, which can cause the connection with the original soul to slowly fade. In an individual coaching trajectory, I investigate with you the patterns that arose in the past and now act as limitations for the company’s course. This form of coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt offers a safe foundation to not immediately fill the silence, provided there is no medical request that belongs with a GP. Silence is a verb.
Listening to the signals of the body
Within this form of coaching for entrepreneurs who experience doubt, the physical experience is central, as the body often carries the answers that the head cannot yet formulate. Integrative coaching focuses on the essential connection between physical sensations and the complex business decisions on the agenda, tapping into a deeper layer of knowing. When attention shifts from the external market to inner awareness, space is created for a decision that is not only logical but also feels physically right. The body rarely lies.

The transition from rational weighing to a supported decision
A decision that is truly supported stems from a careful alignment between the ratio and inner knowing. In the business world, the emphasis is often on logical argumentation and numerical substantiation, but a fundamental change of course requires a foundation that lies deeper than mere facts. During entrepreneurial coaching, we look systemically at the place you occupy within your company and your team. Systemic work means that we involve the hidden dynamics and the history of the organization in the current issues, so that patterns become visible that previously remained invisible. The goal of coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt is not to eliminate the doubt, but to integrate it as a valuable source of information for the company’s course. It is an invitation to look beyond the surface of daily operations and feel the essential flow of the company again. The way out begins within.
Individual coaching as a space for reflection
A trajectory with me in Utrecht consists of ten sessions of two hours, in which time is taken for a fundamental encounter without the pressure of a full agenda. In my book De zin en onzin van zijn, I describe how welcoming all inner guests, including doubt and uncertainty, ultimately leads to greater inner clarity. Coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt offers the mirror needed to recognize and interpret one’s own blind spots in team dynamics or personal effectiveness. It is a process in which silence is given the space to let answers emerge that are lost in the daily hectic. In my practice, an environment is created where business reality and human experience meet without judgment. This reflection forms the basis for a leader who acts from rest and conviction. That creates space.
The space for a supported decision
Doubt is not an obstacle to be overcome, but a powerful source of information that requires attention and slowing down. By shifting the focus from purely rational scenarios to an integrative approach, space is created for a course that truly fits the current phase of entrepreneurship. As the author of the book ‘De zin en onzin van zijn’ and from my own experience building and selling a business, I offer a foundation for this process. This form of coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt brings peace back to leadership. The system finds a new balance.
In my practice in Utrecht, we take the time for a fundamental encounter in which patterns become visible and blind spots disappear. Frequently asked questions about coaching for entrepreneurs
Is coaching for doubt a form of psychological therapy?
No, individual coaching is not a replacement for medical or psychological care by a GP or a registered therapist. Where therapy often focuses on treating illnesses or trauma, coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt focuses on the integration of personal history and current leadership issues within the business context. The focus is on restoring inner balance and finding a supported course. This is a process of awareness.
A trajectory consists of ten sessions of two hours each, spread over a period in which the necessary slowing down can occur. This duration is deliberately chosen to get past the quick answers and offer space for fundamental encounters and in-depth reflection. It offers the possibility to deeply investigate systemic patterns and transform them into new insights. The sessions take place in Utrecht. This rhythm forces rest.
What is the difference between entrepreneurial coaching and management consultancy?
In contrast to management consultancy, I do not offer ready-made advisory services or strategic plans for business operations. Entrepreneurial coaching focuses on the inner state of the leader and the systemic dynamics within the organization or the team. It is not about implementing external models, but about unlocking the entrepreneur’s own wisdom and intuition.
Can I schedule an introduction if I am not yet sure if I want to start a trajectory?
A 30-minute introduction is specifically intended to explore without obligation whether there is a click and whether the question fits my way of working. It is a moment in which we explore whether coaching for entrepreneurs who doubt aligns with the need for clarity and a new course. You are given the space to experience whether my approach resonates with you. There is no pressure. The encounter is central.
